Proverbs 31 Challenge Day 5: Like a Merchant Ship

She is like the merchant ships loaded with foodstuffs;

She brings her household’s food from a far [country].

Proverbs 31:14 AMP

Merchant ships are vessels engaged in active commercial transportation. In biblical times, merchant ships would bring food, linens, and goods not native to a particular country for purchase by the receiving country’s inhabitants. The acquiring country’s men and women could then purchase uncommonly found oils, fabrics and foods to create products for consumption or resale.

The Proverbs 31 woman is noted to be like this vessel. She obtains the best for her family and at the best price. She is resourceful enough to not limit her family's needs to local stores and markets but seeks the best quality for her household’s needs and budget from near and far.

Have you ever been to the home of a grandmother or mother whose pantry is stocked full? She always has food available for her family and visitors. She likely has items in her pantry that you have never seen before! The Proverbs woman knows that being ‘loaded with foodstuffs’ is what creates comfort and support for the people around her. This is another way she creates that secure space.

People within the household may not know what they need but when they do need it the Proverbs woman has already thought about it, purchased it and has it readily available.

Like a merchant ship, the Proverbs woman is well stocked for her journey. Being guided by the wisdom of the Lord as her compass, she is able to provide nothing but the best for herself and household.
